Initiatives

Founded in 2005, Good World Solutions aims to improve the lives of workers in global supply chains. We accomplish this by building innovative and scalable tools using web and mobile technologies to create greater dialogue and transparency between multinational companies, suppliers and workers.

We have two current initiatives:

Our first project, the Fair Wage Guide was created in 2006 in partnership with the fair trade community. The Fair Wage Guide brings a new level of transparency to the fair trade sector by creating a common methodology for the calculation of fair wages. The project has positively impacted more than 30,000 workers, most of whom are women, informal workers, in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Read more about our impact.

The Fair Wage Guide is a free, online tool that buyers and workers can access from anywhere in the world. To date, we have recruited more than 900 companies and NGOs in 81 countries to use the tool. We have also conducted field studies and intensive workshops in select countries. Read more about where we work.

We are now in the process of expanding our work to address a broader range of workers in additional sectors, including agriculture, apparel and electronics. Taking the lessons we have learned working with the fair trade craft community, we hope to build strategic partnerships and new technology tools to improve the lives of low-income workers in global supply chains. We launched our newest project, Labor Link, in 2010. Labor Link, a worker-centric monitoring tool, harnesses the latest mobile phone and web-based technologies to gather information directly from workers in global supply chains. Using simple interactive voice response and text message technologies, we survey workers about their current working conditions, job satisfaction and livelihoods and provide the information to companies sourcing from them.  Learn more about Labor Link.
